Description
All over the globe authoritarian leaders have smashed restraints on their power. Until the US presidential election of 2016, the global decline of democracy seemed a concern for other people in other lands. The freedom of the media and the judiciary have been eroded, and having one's vote counted honestly has been compromised. Steadily, but not always quietly, Trump and his administration are damaging the tenets and accepted practices of American democracy, perhaps irrevocably. The author has been collecting the lies, obfuscations, and flagrant disregard for traditional limits placed on the office of the presidency and the balance of power between the branches of government. This book outlines the hard work of recovery against this assault on democratic institutions and practices. [From publisher's description]
